A special screening brought to you in partnership with the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Darwin! Screening with the Short Film Helicopter Tjungarrayi.

Director Makbul Mubarak's latest film has won numerous awards, including Best Asian Film at Singapore Film Festival, a Fipresci Award at Venice and Best International Film at Adelaide Film Festival.


Autobiography: Housekeeper Rakib works in an empty mansion in a rural Indonesian town. With his father in prison and his brother working overseas, he feels truly alone. The return of the mansion's owner, Purna, to start his mayoral election campaign, creates an opportunity to fill this void. Rakib and Purna quickly develop a deep bond, with Purna becoming the father figure and close mentor the young man has been yearning for. When Purna’s election poster is found vandalised, it sets off an escalating chain of events as Rakib loyally tracks down the culprit with violent consequences.
