The Mother of All Lies + Short Hopeful Romantic at The Darwin International Film Festival

The Mother of All Lies + Short Hopeful Romantic

120 mins | Rated UC15

NT Premiere of THE MOTHER OF ALL LIES screening with the short film HOPEFUL ROMANTIC

100% of the ticket sales from this night will be donated to Doctors without Borders to help following the recent Earthquake in Morocco.

THE MOTHER OF ALL LIES: Cannes 2023 winner of Golden Eye & Un Certain Regard - Best Director. Sydney Film Festival Best Film winner 2023. Focusing on Morocco’s 1981 Bread Riots, Asmae El Moudir recreates the events surrounding a government atrocity using doll-like figures. With the help of Asmae’s father to construct the scene, and Asmae’s mother supporting with textiles, the finely detailed miniatures, and juxtapositions of scale, create a place where memories can roam and long-held secrets can be revealed. As all those around her confront the trauma of the past, Asmae’s fearsome grandmother is dismissive of the process and stubbornly determined to leave history undisturbed. Arabic with English subtitles.

HOPEFUL ROMANTIC: Daisy is looking for love but it's all going terribly wrong. If only she could be someone else, someone 'cooler'. After encountering a ‘cool’ girl in a bar bathroom, Daisy learns things aren’t always as perfect as they seem and decides the only way to find love is to be completely herself.
